The former residence
of a judge, this Relais & Chateaux hotel was acquired and
converted into luxurious boutique accommodation by a French husband
and wife team who already owned a well established and successful
hotel business in Paris. The stylish 5* riad is arranged on two
levels, with a pair of early 20th-century residences surrounding
the two beautiful courtyards, one boasting an 18 metre heated
pool, the other with a fountain, a scattering of sofas and armchairs
and the eponymous orange trees.
Villa des Orangers, deemed one of the 101 best
hotels in the world by Tatler, is located on the edge of the medina
only 10 minutes from the busy Jemaa El Fna Square, but the heavy
carved wooden doors preserve the serene atmosphere enclosed within.
In Winter months the large fieplaces make perfect companions,
but come Summer and the rooftop terrace, complete with second
small plunge pool and additional heated pool, offers perfect sunbathing
terrritory as well as stunning views of the mosques and buildings
of the old city, and in the distance the Atlas Mountains. The
19 guest rooms and suites are spacious and elegantly appointed,
decorated in traditional Moroccan style, while still offering
modern en-suite bathrooms with separate bathtubs and showers and
spa-quality amenities. All rooms open onto the courtyard, while
some of the suites have the added luxury of their own private
terrace facing the courtyard. The new luxurious suites have a
private balcony overlooking the garden and pool.
