Dar Doukkala has been described as a luxurious little palace
by past guests who have stayed here since it first opened its
heavy doors in October 2002. The result of the preceding four
years of restoration by the owner, Jean-Luc Lemée, is a
calming oasis in the heart of the medina, just a few narrow, bustling
passages away from Djmaa El Fna square and its souks.
Each of the six very spacious rooms has its
own character and style, decorated using only traditional antique
furniture and local artworks from the neighbouring souk. The blend
of orientalism and art deco continues with the small but funky
pool, unusually located on the large first floor terrace, ensuring
longer hours of sun than on most courtyards.
The poolside terraces with their tropical
plants provide stunning views of the Atlas Mountains, as well as
of the medina and its monuments, such as the Koutoubia Mosque and
Dar El Bacha Palace. Guests are also invited to relax in either
of the two lounges where they are welcomed with a refreshing glass
of mint tea. |
